Choose Eco-Friendly Invitations

As wedding vendors becoming increasingly environmentally aware, it’s easier than ever to find invitations printed on recycled paper or alternatives like seed paper. Seed paper is a biodegradable material that sprouts into flowers when planted in a bed of soil. Select companies like Paper Culture, who also plant a tree for every order received.

Donate- Don’t Trash- Wedding Decor

Trashing the decor after a wedding is always the fastest way to clean-up, but doesn't aid in helping clean up our mother Earth. Don’t worry there are plenty of ideas on how you can reduce, reuse, recycle, or even donate your used wedding decor! Consider using decor you already own or can use in your future home. Got items that didn't make the “home” cut? Donate to programs like Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity, donations are considered tax-deductible, which means you’ll be sitting pretty in April while doing a bit of good for the community.

Forget Buying- Rent

This big day of yours only happens once. So, does your new husband actually need to buy a 3 piece suit? Unless he working on Wallstreet, RENT don’t BUY. Single-use anything is not good for the environment, no matter which way you spin your words. The fabric’s used to make your hubby’s formal attire had to come from somewhere and chances are, there isn’t a surplus of silkworms in the US. Reducing the number of goods imported into the country in-turn reduces your carbon footprint. Related, opting for rented decor and equipment such as china, glassware, and linens will automatically upgrade your wedding’s entire atmosphere by coming off as classy and elegant, with a side of reducing landfill waste head-on.

Green Get-Away

The socially conscientious couple may consider an out-of-the-box honeymoon by embarking on an Eco-tour. Eco-tours are defined as, “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improve the well-being of local people." Ecotourism is about uniting conservation, communities, and sustainable travel. For more information on ecotourism, visit The International Ecotourism Society.
